Harsh winter weather can take its toll on your hair, just like skin (take a look at our last blog if you want winter skincare tips), hair needs protection from the cold to remain healthy. The cold air plays havoc on your cuticles, causing them to lift and lose valuable moisture which can lead to breakage, and if your hair is inclined…. Frizz! So hair care is crucial.

Here are 10 tips to keep your hair looking and feeling great this winter.

  1. Wear a hat

Hat hair is an inconvenience but not wearing one could rob your hair of valuable moisture and as we said, this will lead to breakage. If you are out in the elements frequently, and you wearing a hat will great too much frizz, try applying a dry oil to your hair. The oil helps lock in the moisture in your hair by creating a seal, keeping your locks hydrated.

  1. Get regular trims

Keeping your hair trimmed every 6 to 8 weeks will keep it looking healthy and stop the nasty split ends.

  1. Avoid too much heat

Allowing your hair to air dry is always best. In the colder months, your hair is already delicate, blow drying your hair only makes the issue worse by taking all of the moisture out of your hair.

  1. Deep condition regularly

Keeping your hair moisturised is the best way to keep it looking healthy in the winter, leave-in conditioners replenish moisture and help negate the negative effects of styling, indoor heating, and cold weather. Hydrating your hair with a leave-in conditioner will help protect it, you should also consider a weekly hair mask, these can make sure your hair has extra protection and give you some added shine.

  1. Don’t wash too often

Winter is not the time to wash your hair every day, in fact, you shouldn’t wash it every day ever, If over washing your hair strips out your natural oils which are designed to protect your hair. Try extending the time between your washes and keep the heat down. A hot shower is definitely what you need to keep warm in winter, but the hot water is another no-no, and can also strip your hair of moister, so term down the temp for healthier hair
