Winter is coming and the harsh weather combined with the overly warn indoor heating plays havoc on your skin. We’ve compiled a few skincare tips to keep your skin looking healthy all winter. So, if your skin is dry, flaky, or itchy, then check out these handy tips.

Trap in the moisture

Your skin naturally produces oils that help protect and keep it healthy. The Winter months can be harsh on these oils as we have the tendency to take longer, hotter baths and showers. So, try to avoid lengthy showers and turn down the heat a notch and when you’re done, gently pat yourself dry and moisturise your skin whilst it’s still slightly damp to lock in the moisture.

You don’t want to just think about the outside, you need to keep inside just as hydrated, so make sure you drink plenty of fresh water.

Don’t forget the sunscreen

You may think because it’s cold outside you can ditch the sunscreen but don’t be too hasty, because according to Victoria Schofield, an expert from Dermalogica, “UVA rays are present at the same strength from dusk till dawn all year round and penetrate cloud cover” this means that damage to your skin can happen all year round. Not only that, but the sun’s UVA can also penetrate glass and windows, so even indoors or in your car, you won’t be protected if you don’t use sunscreen.

Switch your moisturiser

Moisturising your skin should already be in your daily routine, but have you thought about the type of moisturise you’re using? During the winter months, you may need a deeper treatment, try switching to an oil-based or deep moisturiser, especially for areas prone to dryness like your hands, feet, elbows, and knees. An old trick is to pop on a pair of cotton gloves and socks to lock in the moisture while you sleep.

Protect your lips

In winter, your lips are more fragile so be sure to apply a good moisturiser when you’re out in the cold, to protect and avoid dry, irritated skin.

With a little forward planning and a little extra daily effort, you could be looking fab all winter.
