The Top Five Foods for Healthy Looking Hair

Hair and Food
We are heading for a heatwave, so we’ve highlighted five short trendy styles guaranteed to help you stay cool this summer, from the classic chic bob to a trendy mohawk, not only that – short hair is seriously on-trend.

We take great pride in making our client’s hair look and feel fabulous but there are a few things you can do to help make your hair look even more fabulous! A healthy balanced diet is essential for healthy hair growth, the adage we are what we eat is so true, so we have gathered a few essential foods to incorporate into your diet:

Leafy greens

Eating a diet rich in leafy greens like kale, watercress, cabbage, and spinach has numerous benefits including high levels of Iron. Iron is important for the body to remain healthy and is a key supplement for strong hair. Iron keeps red blood cells healthy and is essential for hair growth and repair.

Leafy greens also contain Vitamins A which can help your hair follicles produce sebum. Sebum helps protect your hair and scalp, keeping the moisturised. There is also an abundance of Vitamin C helps the body absorb all the iron.

Avocado

Avocado is a little powerhouse of essential fatty acids and vitamins. They contain potassium, magnesium, and vitamins B6, C, D, and E.

The rich fatty acids in avocados are vital for healthy cells. There are two types of fatty acids, essential and non-essential.  the body can’t create essential fatty acids, so we have to get these directly from our diet. A study showed omega-3s and omega-6s may prevent hair loss [PubMed]

But the wonderfulness of the avocado doesn’t stop there! You can also use it for a DIY hair treatment. The fatty acids in the oil can add moisture to the hair.

Berries

Not only do they taste delicious, but berries are also full of vitamins, including lots of vitamin C, which promotes hair health, reduces hair loss, and improves hair growth, vitamin C also helps build collagen, which is key for hair growth, helping reduce damage to the follicles

Seeds and Nuts

Seeds and nuts (like Macadamias) provide plenty of nutrients to help keep your hair healthy and encourage hair growth. They contain an abundance of vitamins including iron, magnesium, zinc, and selenium.  Low levels of anemia can lead to hair loss and a Zinc deficiency can cause hair shedding, so increasing your zinc and iron levels will help support healthy hair.

Carrots and Sweet Potatoes

If your hair has lost its shine, try bumping up your bright orange fruit and vegetables. Packed full of beta carotene, which your body converts to vitamin A. This encourages the production of sebum, which is needed to help prevent your hair from drying out. Carrots, melons, mangoes, sweet potatoes, oranges… the list goes on!

Follow these tips and you will have delicious-looking hair in no time. Check out our blog on how to get your hair sunshine ready.
